James 2:8-9 (ESV)
If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself,' you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
Talk About It
God doesn’t play favorites, and He doesn’t want us to either! James reminds us that showing love to everyone is how we follow God’s command. If we treat people differently because of what they have or how they look, it makes others feel left out and doesn’t show God’s heart. God loves each person the same, and He wants us to love others just like He loves us.
For Parents to Explain
God, thank You that You love each of us the same. Please help us see others like You do and love them with Your love. Amen.
Family Activities
No Favorites Snack Game
- Prepare a small variety of snacks (or small toys).
- Ask each person to pretend they’re handing them out—should only one person get the best?
- Talk about how it feels to be left out or to share with others.
- Make sure everyone gets something and talk about how God shares His love equally with everyone.
Love Your Neighbor Skit
- Act out a short scene where someone is treated special and others are left out.
- Pause and let family members give ideas about what could be done differently.
- Act out a new scene where everyone is included.
- Discuss: How can we show God’s love at home, school, or church?
Family Prayer
Think of someone who might feel left out. Ask God to help you show kindness to them this week.
